It is nothing to get through, but the challenge should increase as you play, and here is an annoying chaos. The problem is that among more than sixty missions, there are tasks that are extremely simple, but also unnecessarily elongated and complicated. All this makes Retro City Rampage DX a very affordable title, but not always easy.Īs a game for old school stagers, the difficulty level couldn’t be too low. Driving the vehicles also got two options – standard acceleration and turning or a facilitated driving model, thanks to which we only have to operate the left mushroom. We even have the option to hide behind a cover, but it is much better to simply dodge enemy projectiles, and use a “hydraulic” jump on the attacker’s head. Shoot by pressing the square, tilting the right stick or holding the shot button to lock the sight on the enemy.

There is a nice gameplay behind the funny cover. In search of suitable parts for repair, we will visit, among others a prison from which we will escape moving under a cardboard box, we will fight the combination of Robocop and Super Joe or we will have to cross a very busy street to the other side – here I used small jumps, because how else? The plot, however, is of no great importance here, and is an excuse to add more references. There he meets a time-traveling doctor who will try to help repair the booth and return to his 1980s. Being an everyday big-fish criminal, he finds a strange phone booth that takes him back in time to the city of Thieftropolis in 2012. In Retro City Rampage DX we play the role of a hero named Player. Armed turtles come out of the sewer drain, duck-hunting hunters are laughed at by a dog emerging from behind a bush (on the roof of the building!), And a mad doc comes out of a DeLorean, suddenly materialized in front of our eyes – and this is just the initial mission! In the first few minutes of the game, I managed to count a dozen references to classic games and movies, which perfectly shows what the authors focused on here. Eight-bit madness on the streets of a large, open city, where instead of gangs, action stars (and not only) of the end of the last century reign.

Imagine one of the first installments of Grand Theft Auto, but dedicated to NES.

#RETRO CITY RAMPAGE DX PS4 REVIEW SERIES#
Remember what it was like before the GTA series went into third dimension? The 80s and 90s are invariably the golden era of the games and movies market for you? Retro City Rampage DX is a nostalgic return to those times when one reference to the classic chases the other with such frequency that it overwhelms in places.
